Senzo Mchunu, born on April 21, 1958 is a South African politician who has served loyally and made a name for himself in the South African political scene.

He is a former Premier of KwaZulu-Natal, a former Minister of Public Service and Administration, and a member of the African National Congress (ANC). 

In June 2024, Senzo Mchunu was appointed as the Minister of Police in South Africa. 


Senzo Mchunu Early Life, Age and Education

Edward Senzo Mchunu, popularly known as Senzo Mchunu, was born on April 21, 1958 in eNhlwathi, Hlabisa Natal, Union of South Africa. He grew up in a decent home and this had an influence on his character as a person growing up.

As of 2024, Senzo Mchunu is 66 years old. He also acquired secondary and tertiary education from a high school in Pietermaritzburg and the University of Zululand respectively. 

Senzo then went on to attend the University of South Africa where he obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree in Education and International Relations. 


Senzo Mchunu Career

After graduating from the university, Senzo Mchunu started his career by working as a teacher in high schools in Eshowe and Nquthu.

In 1991, he Senzo started his career in South African politics when he was appointed as the inaugural Regional Secretary of the African National Congress' (ANC's) branch in Northern Natal. Three years later, he was appointed as the Provincial Secretary of the same party in the KwaZulu-Natal branch. 

In 2019, during the General Election, Senzo Mchunu was elected as a Member of the National Assembly. He was then appointed to the cabinet of President Ramaphosa as Minister of Public Service and Administration. Following a cabinet reshuffle by the President, Senzo was moved to the Ministry of Water and Sanitation. 

On June 30, 2024 Senzo Mchunu was appointed as the Minister of Police after South African President Cyril Ramaphosa announced the new members of the National Executive for the seventh administration.

Senzo Mchunu is presently married to Thembeka Mchunu who is also a politician. The couple got married in July 1990 and they have four children together.
