Bini (formed in 2018) is a Filipino girl group that has become a world sensation with various hit songs. The group, formerly known as SHA Girls or Star Hunt Academy Girls, is made up of eight members: Gwen, Maloi, Colet, Aiah, Sheena, Jhoanna, Mikha, and Stacey.

In June 2024, Bini became the first Filipino artists to enter the Top Artist Global Chart on Spotify when they got into 193rd position.

Bini Early Life

The band name Bini was derived from “binibini” which means “young lady” in Tagalog. The group was formed in 2019 through the Star Hunt Academy program of ABS-CBN which was a training camp for youths aspiring to become superstars.

As part of the program, Bini performed at a mall show in Taguig, at the 2019 Manila Southeast Asian Games, the 2019 National Youth Commission event, and the Phillipine K-pop Convention's Happy Hallyu Day 4 event.

Bini Career

Despite being formed in 2019, it wasn't until June 2021 that Bini made its debut as a music group with the single “Born to Win.” As part of its debut, the group held a two part event; Bini: The Runway in June 4 and The Showcase in June 11.

In August that year, Bini performed at the Phillipine K-pop Convention's Happy Hallyu Day 5 event, and in September it released its third single titled “Kapit Lang” (Hold on).

In September 2022, Bini released “Feel Good,” their sophomore studio album which was made up of five songs. On March 8, 2024, in alignment with their advocacy for women empowerment, the group released “Talaarawan,” an extended play (EP) which consists of six songs including “Pantropiko” (Tropical) and “Karera” (Race) both of which were first released in late 2023.

“Pantropiko” eventually went viral on TikTok and this helped Bini achieve its first major success. TikTok users created the “Pantropiko Dance Challenge” using the song and by the end of March 2024, Bini had already amassed over two million monthly listeners on Spotify.
